It's federal tax season and there's help available. The Texas Military Forces (TXMF) is currently providing service members, retirees and their spouses with tax preparation assistance. While the tax center is being operated at Camp Mabry, the state's National Guard headquarters, in Austin, the services are available to all eligible Texas Airmen, between Feb. 4 and April 8, 2014.

If your combined household income is below $60,000, you can receive no-cost tax preparation with volunteers certified by the Internal Revenue Service, said Lt. Col. Sonya Batchelor, staff judge advocate for the 149th Fighter Wing, Texas Air National Guard, which is the home of the Lone Star Gunfighters. There are some eligibility exceptions, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

The 149FW Legal Office can help facilitate the process during unit training assemblies, but Gunfighters are encouraged to contact the TXMF Tax Center directly, at (512) 782-1169, if they need assistance during weekday hours. Qualified participants have the option to file their tax return electronically and can receive any refund through a direct deposit into their bank account.
